When we think of a place we want to work, each of us has our own idea of what that ideal place or environment might look like. Mine happens to resemble the picture to the left. Money obviously is a motivator as it gives us freedom to do as we desire, but somewhere the cliche'..."money isn't everything", usually surfaces in our mind. It may be a 30, 40, 50 or beyond, but surface it does in all of us. If we are really insightful and honest with ourselves it may surface in our 20's. It is usually in realtion to some sort of internal dialouge that we formulate the question. That question usually is in the form of..."what am I doing with my life?"
In looking at the list of Fortune Magaizine Top 100 companies to work for we still see some old favorites like Netapp (#1), Google (#4) and Cisco (#6) in the information technology area. What suprises me is the ranking of Edward Jones (#2) and Goldman Sachs (#9) in the financial area in the wake of the credit crisis. Seems investing is still a good field? However I believe companies will have to work harder than ever to restore public confidence for high growth to be sustained in these areas.
www.greatplacetowork.com is a good reference point to research if you are thinking of over seas employment which was founded by Robert Levering and Amy Lyman and comes up with the Top 100 for Fortune Magazine.
